Molivos beach

Molyvos Beach (it is also called Mithymna) is located in the north of the island next to the town of the same name. According to legend, Mithymna was the name of one of the daughters of Makareus, king of Lesvos, and the name Molyvos appeared later, during the reign of the Byzantines. The nearest city of Petra is three kilometers away; Mytilene, the capital of the island - about sixty. Every year this resort attracts a huge number of vacationers coming to rest in Greece thanks to the quiet, cozy harbor, picturesque scenery and an abundance of attractions located nearby.

Beach description

The shoreline of Molivos is narrow but quite stretched out. The beach is covered by pebbles, with sand appearing close to Psinar Bay. The descent is smooth and the sea bottom is good for tourists with children. The beach was awarded with the Blue flag, is equipped with sunbeds and canopies, and there are sports playgrounds.

Those who like "wild" leisure and solitude can rest between the large boulders on the left side of the beach. Be careful and take slippers though, as there are sea urchins there.

Tourists can use various sea attractions, rent a boat or a yacht and visit a diving center. Wind season, which attracts windsurfing enthusiasts, starts in the middle of August.

Despite its crowdedness, Molivos doesn't have any parking problems. You can leave your car in the village or on the parking lot above the bay, with a steep narrow road leading to it.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
