Vatera beach

One of the most beautiful and longest beaches, not only in Lesvos, but throughout Greece. Located in the southern part of the island between the Gulfs of Era and Kalloni, not far from the town of Polincito, in the vicinity of which there are unique hot mineral springs. The beach is a kind of hallmark of the island, its photographs adorn the front pages of all Lesvos brochures.

Beach description

Vatera amazes the visitors with its breathtaking beauty and scale. Its 7-km long shoreline covered in pebbles always attracts tourists who come in heaps even during the high season. The clearest turquoise sea allows for some underwater swimming and diving, and the smooth descent into the water is perfect for tourists with children and elderly people.

The beach, awarded with the Blue flag, has everything necessary for a great vacation. There are zones with sunbeds and deck chairs, enough space to lay on your own towels, and even nudists will find a place for themselves.

You can visit some water attractions, rent a boat or fishing equipment and visit a diving center. Those who like extreme sports can enjoy parasailing or view the surroundings from up above with a paraglider.

Since the shoreline is quite stretched, there are no problems with parking your vehicle, except maybe in August and during the weekend. You can also leave your car in the nearby Vrisa village and walk to the beach or rent a bicycle.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
