Beach description
Beruwala is located in a calm bay protected from high waves and fast currents by the natural coral reef. The giant coastline is covered in grainy white sand and surrounded by exotic palms with shadows that save from the heat. The descent is smooth, and the sea bottom is flat and safe. You can encounter some small sharp stones and coral shards, so wearing slippers is advised.
Beruwala was quite a wild and solitary place just few years ago. Today the coast is under heavy construction, with many hotels and restaurants both cheap and expensive already operating. You can rent sports equipment here and partake in snorkeling and surfing or ride water attractions. The bay has many interesting places for diving, including sunken ships which are frequently visited by special groups with experienced instructors.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to travel to Sri Lanka is the period from November to April, when the weather is dry. In summer, the rainy season takes place in Sri Lanka, however, the prices this season are much lower. So if you are not afraid of rainfalls (which commonly take place at night, and by morning the ground dries up), a trip in the summer can be a great option for a budget holiday.
