Beach description
Surrounded by lush flora (which gave the place its name), Jungle Beach fascinates with its clean golden sand and large boulders on the shore which attracts couples and photographers. The beach can't be called empty - it's quite crowded here, especially during weekends. No high waves and the depth rises gradually, which means that Jungle Beach is a great place to bring your children to. The beach is popular among locals and isn't very well-known to foreigners. The majority of tourists are young people, as getting to the coast can be quite difficult and requires a person to be fit. The path that leads here is a steep stone road through a thick forest (takes about 25 minutes from the center of Unawatuna).
A small cafe operates near the beach, and its staff keeps the beach clean. You can always rent umbrellas and sunbeds here to relax on the shore. The hidden Rumassala temple located in the outskirts of the beach is worth visiting for the magnificent statues of Buddha and rock murals.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to travel to Sri Lanka is the period from November to April, when the weather is dry. In summer, the rainy season takes place in Sri Lanka, however, the prices this season are much lower. So if you are not afraid of rainfalls (which commonly take place at night, and by morning the ground dries up), a trip in the summer can be a great option for a budget holiday.
