Rekawa beach
Rekawa is a spacious sandy beach about 10 km away from Tangalle bay that begins in the lagoon of the same name behind Marakolliya village and ends in the Kalametiya natural reserve. The waves are quite high here, not ideal for swimming. The coast, 3,5 km in length, also can't be called very picturesque, but its main feature aren't the landscapes anyway.

Beach description
Rekawa attracts ecotourists the most. This calm and uncrowded beach is known for being a natural "nursery" of rare sea turtles (leatherback and green) that lay their eggs on the coast. Which makes the tours to these nesting places the main "attraction" of Rekawa. This is one of the best places for such ecotours.
Tours are usually offered from Tangalle and take place in the evening, which also allows you to look at the incredible ocean sunset that makes the golden sand on the coast shine especially beautifully. The best period to look at turtles on Rekawa is from January till April, when the nights are accompanied by a very bright moon that makes the process more accessible to watch.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to travel to Sri Lanka is the period from November to April, when the weather is dry. In summer, the rainy season takes place in Sri Lanka, however, the prices this season are much lower. So if you are not afraid of rainfalls (which commonly take place at night, and by morning the ground dries up), a trip in the summer can be a great option for a budget holiday.
