Sipadan Island beach

Jacques Cousteau described Sipadan as an “untouched work of art,” and Rodale's scuba diving publication identified this island as one of the top three dive sites on the planet. Sipadan is located off the east coast of Sabah. The island is formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone. Located in the heart of the Indo-Pacific Basin, Sipadan is home to over 400 species of fish and hundreds of coral variations.

Beach description

A small island that you can get around in 25 minutes is fraught with a lot of miracles. Diving or snorkeling in the clear waters of the Sulawesi Sea (with visibility up to 50 meters) will reward you with a meeting with green turtles (which mate and nest here), flocks of barracudas, pilot fish, and parrots. Manta rays (“sea devils”), eagle rays, hammer fish and whale sharks also visit the Sipadan lagoon.

There is a “turtle tomb” at the base of the island - an underwater limestone cave, in the labyrinths of which there are many skeleton turtles that did not find a way to the surface. The lush vegetation of Sipadan is a haven for a variety of tropical birds: kingfishers, sunbirds, wild pigeons, etc. Exotic crustaceans, including palm crabs, walk along the white sandy beaches.

The hotels on the reserved island are closed in order to minimize the tourist impact on the environment. Tourists settle in the city of Semporna in anticipation of permits for diving (they are issued up to 120 per day). From there, the boat takes them to the island of Mabul - the starting point for research.

When is it better to go

There are no sudden changes in temperature on the beaches of Malaysia's and possible to relax on the islands all year round. There is no particular season of rains and winds, precipitation is distributed depending on the month of the year and the region of the country.
