Mourteri beach

In the east of central Euboea, framed by cliffs on both sides, lies the picturesque beach of Mourteri - one of the largest beaches on the island. Silence, tranquility and solitude, the blue waters of the Aegean, high cliffs and clean Greek air - all this you will find on Murteri.

Beach description

Despite its popularity and size, Murteri is a rather quiet place. The same name village is located nearby, where just over a hundred people live. Therefore, the atmosphere of seclusion and merging with nature is provided to everyone who comes to this area.

The beach is pebbly and sandy and very wide (which is not often found in Evia and Greece). The first thing that vacationers note is windy weather: in July-August, the height of waves due to wind gusts reaches 3-4 m. Entry into the water is smooth at first, bu then sharply gains depth. It is better to enter into the sea in special shoes so as not to hurt your legs: for these reasons, a vacation at Murteri is not very suitable for families with children under 6 years old. Older children and teenagers may well like the strong waves that break with noise on rare boulders on the shore.

There are not many umbrellas on the beach: it is better to bring your own. Trees are rare, so you cannot hide in the natural shade.

The beach is popular with different audiences. Here you can see fans of extreme sport, couples, youth companies and middle-aged tourists. But Murteri is especially popular with parasailing enthusiasts: ideal conditions are created here for practicing this sport. However, Murteri is hardly suitable for beginners in parasailing: such a strong breeze can only be suppressed by professionals.

The best way to get to the beach is by renting a car or taxi.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
