Banana beach

Banana Beach (Banana, Crassa) is a vibrant youth beach situated in the southwest of Skiathos. It is renowned for hosting the best parties where tropical cocktails and Greek culinary delights are savored. Here, young people from across the globe converge to socialize and create memories. The beach also offers ideal conditions for swimming, sunbathing, and strolling along the sandy shore and through the lush tropical groves. Regarding the infrastructure, visitors will be pleased to find modern and comfortable amenities, an extensive menu of dishes and cocktails, and clean, spacious restrooms.

Beach description

The beach is nestled in a quaint, yet stunningly picturesque bay, embraced by towering trees, imposing rocks, and majestic cliffs. Its expanse is adorned with soft, snow-white sand, intermittently sprinkled with shells and smooth pebbles. The seabed is notably free from sea urchins, sharp objects, and slippery surfaces. It's important to note that during high tides, the rocks on the right coast become submerged, yet remain visible through the crystal-clear waters.

Banana Beach offers not only a feast for the eyes but also shelter from the wind and large waves. The weather here is predominantly sunny and serene, with calm conditions prevailing 90% of the time, only occasionally giving way to gentle waves. A delightful bonus is the aromatic blend of sea air, tropical flora, and tantalizing local cuisine that fills the atmosphere. As for cleanliness, the beach is impeccable, thanks to the diligent efforts of the local bar staff who ensure the area is pristine daily.

Banana Beach comprises two distinct sections (Small and Big Banana), each flanked by cliffs. Both offer amenities such as loungers, sunbeds, and umbrellas. Big Banana is a hub of activity, favored by the youth and party enthusiasts. It pulsates with loud music, vibrant parties, and performances by top DJs from Greece and across the European Union. Small Banana, in contrast, is the sole nudist beach on Skiathos, attracting tourists from all corners of Europe seeking to commune with nature and escape the hustle and bustle.

Strategically positioned between Bang Tao and Naithon beaches, Banana Beach is accessed via a road that meanders through a lush rainforest populated with palm trees, casuarinas, and hardwoods. Interestingly, despite its name, banana trees are conspicuously absent. An intriguing fact about Banana Beach is its dynamic width, which fluctuates with the tides, ranging from 70 to a mere 10 meters, while the coastline stretches between 200-250 meters.

This idyllic beach presents visitors with a plethora of leisure options:

  • Savoring culinary delights and refreshing beverages to the rhythm of groovy music and the soothing sound of waves;
  • Indulging in sunbathing, with the option to do so au naturel;
  • Engaging in water sports such as surfing and diving;
  • Taking dips in the crystal-clear sea;
  • Experiencing electrifying parties at the Banarama Beach Bar;
  • Embarking on jungle treks and cliff climbing adventures;
  • Playing volleyball and participating in other beach sports.

When is the best time to go?

The Northern Sporades, a group of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, are a prime destination for beach enthusiasts. To make the most of your beach vacation, timing is key.

  • Mid-June to Early July: This period is ideal for those who prefer a quieter experience. The weather is warm, and the water temperatures are pleasant for swimming. The islands are less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed atmosphere.
  • Late July to August: This is the peak tourist season. The weather is hot and perfect for sunbathing, but expect the beaches to be more crowded. If you enjoy a vibrant social scene and don't mind the hustle and bustle, this is the time for you.
  • September: As the high season winds down, September offers a great balance. The sea remains warm from the summer heat, and the crowds have thinned out, providing a peaceful beach experience with still plenty of sunshine.

Ultimately, the best time to visit the Northern Sporades for a beach vacation depends on your preferences for weather, water activities, and social environment. Consider these factors when planning your trip to enjoy the stunning beaches of the Sporades to their fullest.
