Ixia beach

Ialyssos and Ixia, separated by the majestic Fileramos Mountain, share similar conditions. However, Ialyssos has become a haven for surfers due to its high waves and robust winds, while Ixia has endeared itself to the general tourist population, appealing to those without a penchant for extreme sports. The allure of this locale lies in its prime location, nestled conveniently between the airport and the capital. The distance is manageable on foot for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll. Alternatively, opting for public transport will whisk you to your destination in less than half an hour, even accounting for the wait time for a bus.

Beach description

The beach at Ixia boasts a pebbled terrain. While the wind here is less intense than in Ialissos, it remains quite strong. A calm sea is also a rarity on this side. However, most of the resort features a smooth, gentle shoreline. This resort is not typically noisy, as the conditions of the beach do not tend to attract young crowds. With a length of 5 kilometers, you're sure to find a spot that comfortably suits your preferences.

The beach is predominantly pebbled and features an expansive stretch that is often deserted. While young groups may find it less appealing, if you seek tranquility and privacy, and are not particularly bothered by the absence of sand, then Ixia beach is an ideal choice for you.

What sets this resort apart:

  • Pebbles instead of sand
  • Robust and persistent winds
  • Substantial waves
  • Scarcity of crowds
  • Easy accessibility

When is the best time to visit?

  • The best time to visit Rhodes for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early autumn period, specifically from May to October. This timeframe offers the optimal balance of warm weather, sunny skies, and comfortable sea temperatures for beach activities.

    • May to June: These months mark the beginning of the tourist season, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. The sea might still be a bit cool for some, but the weather is generally ideal for those who prefer a more tranquil beach experience.
    • July to August: This is the peak season for Rhodes, characterized by hot temperatures and bustling beaches. It's the perfect time for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the vibrant island life. However, be prepared for higher prices and more tourists.
    • September to October: The end of the high season brings milder temperatures and a more relaxed atmosphere. The sea remains warm enough for swimming, making it an excellent time for those seeking a quieter beach holiday.

Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation in Rhodes depends on your preferences for weather, water activities, and crowd levels. Each period offers a unique experience, so consider what matters most to you when planning your trip.

Infrastructure

Everything is fine with the infrastructure. Transport runs constantly. Almost the entire beach is equipped with sun loungers, parasols, toilets, showers, and parking lots. Cafés, restaurants, bars - all this abounds on the beach. Most of them offer a good menu featuring authentic Greek cuisine. Additionally, there is a great selection of hotels. I recommend several of them: the five-star Ixian All Suites by Sentido, Atrium Platinum Resort & Spa, and Dionysos Hotel Ixia.

There are some complications with the sightseeing. There is nothing particularly interesting in Ixia itself, but you can quickly get to everything. If you wish to spend several days among ancient ruins, feel free to head to Rhodes. In the same city, there is a magnificent aquarium, divided into 25 pools. In neighboring Ialyssos, there are also many architectural monuments. If you do not want to spend time on each of them, consider visiting only the Church of St. Nicholas.

Useful information

It’s definitely not worth going to Ixia with small children, because traveling around the island with them is more difficult, and because of the waves, swimming on this coast can be problematic for adults as well. Fans just lie down by the sea is also better to choose another place. For the same reasons.

Be sure to take your time and go to your local tavern. Usually, hotels and restaurants don’t prepare real Greek cuisine. And in the tavern you can fully experience all the smells and complex tastes of food inherent in a foreign culture, try something unusual.
