Caldera beach
The name of the beach goes back several thousand years ago, when its crater fell into the earth's depths, and the s sea poured into the crater (caldera) because of the catastrophic eruption of Santorini Volcano. Now it’s just a place with stunning scenery.

The beach is covered with black sand and pebbles, the bottom is rocky, but there are places where you can enter the sea comfortably and safely. The wind here is much weaker than on the outside of the island. There is no developed service, but there are taverns with appetizing food. People who do not want to seek out, here fully enjoy the charms of Mediterranean nature. The diving site is located immediately. The beach is covered with rocks, which are so unusual patterns that it is difficult to believe that only nature applied to them.
It will be interesting for History Lovers to visit the archaeological excavations of the settlement that have been underway since 1870 near the village of Akrotiri, whose length is attributed to the Bronze Age. The local lighthouse with an unusual square tower, which is one of the oldest similar structures in Greece, is of interest.
You Can Get to Akrotiri and, therefore, to the beach of Caldera by a shuttle bus. The distance between this beach and Feara is 10 kilometres. Usually the journey takes 20 minutes, but during peak hours the duration of the trip can stretch to an hour.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
