Kamari beach
Kamari - the most famous, most picturesque and especially popular among vacationers Santorini beach. Its name is pronounced with emphasis on the second syllable. This is due a small arch, which can still be seen on the southern edge of the beach. According to legend, these are the remains of the sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon. This picturesque area is a real hallmark of the island. The crowded coast with exotic black sand is one of the most recognizable landscapes in the photo.

Beach description
Kamari is located in the southeastern part of the island, about 8 km away from the capital and just 3 km away from the airport. This is the longest beach out of all the developed ones on the island. The 5-km long shoreline is very scenic as it's covered in black volcanic sand and small black pebbles. The Mesa Vuno that protects Kamari from the winds and separates it from the neighboring Perissa beach on the other side is located on the south of the beach.
The beach is very clean and very well-developed, which is the reason it got awarded the Blue Flag. The descent is smooth, but shallow waters quickly become deep. The smoothest descent is located near the Mesa Vuno mountain. This part is perfect for families with young children.
Most parts of the beach have large stones and natural stone plates when descending into water. You have to be careful and wear slippers so as to not injure yourself. Also note that there are high surfs here. The water is so clean and clear when there are no waves that the sea bottom is visible. No fish or jellyfish live here.
This beach is considered the best to bring young children to. There's even a special playground for kids with attractions and animators. You can leave children under the supervision of professionals and go on a tour around the surroundings. But you need to watch your children carefully when they swim, as the depth spikes just few meters away from the shore.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure
Kamari is well-maintained, vacationers are offered a wide range of entertainment and affordable services. There are showers, changing rooms, playgrounds for children; it is possible to rent sun beds, to buy food and water. Near the shore is an equipped parking for cars; lifeguards are on duty at the beach itself. Kamari suits both for passive and active relaxation. In season you may relax here with children, however having babies with you it is much better to chose a neighboring Perissa.
There is a wide range of hotels.
- The most expensive are located close to the sea and the beach. The least expensive are located on the 2nd and 3rd line from the sea.
- Among the best hotels it is possible to note Santorini Crystal Blue, Tamarix Del Mar Suites, Cavo Bianco (4 or 5 stars). More budget-friendly will be relaxation in Narkissos Hotel.
- Close to Kamari, 100 meters from the beach only is located a hotel Santellini Boutique, where newlyweds often stay.
- Many hotels have animators and playgrounds for children.
- It is better to care about booking in advance, because a resort is very popular among vacationers in Santorini. On the coast it is possible to find villas and apartments for renting.
Service offering equipment for water activities (such as catamarans, water ski, etc.) for rent is well developed. You can dive or parasail, there is a dive club.
The resort town with the same name close to the beach attracts with low prices for relaxation here, the proximity to the airport, well-developed infrastructure and conditions for entertainment. There are excellent taverns and cafes, shops and souvenir shops, bars and nightclubs, discos.
This is the ideal beach for relaxation for the youth. For those who would like to find privacy, silence and tranquility, it is better to find other place in this Greek island.

From the airport of the capital can be reached by bus with a change at the bus station Santorini; by rented car or taxi if you want to get to the beach as soon as possible. You can walk on foot, in just half an hour, but in extreme heat, this is not the best idea to save on vacation.

- The wine museum is a place of interest, located on the territory of the winery located in the vicinity of the beach. Drink tastings are held there, and you can even buy a bottle of signature wine as a gift.
There is an airfield right at the end of the beach, so here you can often admire the planes flying over the beach, which also attracts tourists.
It is advisable to take shoes with you, which will be convenient to walk on the sand. Due to the black color, it is very much warmed up by the sun. At the same time, there is almost nowhere to hide in a natural shadow. It’s better to come here in the morning, when it’s not too crowded and not very hot.
