Mesa Pidgadia beach

Mesa Pigadia is located in the southwest of the island near Akrotiri. You can get to the area of the lighthouse, which is known as a local attraction, either by boat or a boat cruise from Akrotiri or by car or quad, turning off the main road and driving about a kilometer along the dirt road.

Beach description

This deserted white-rock beach with just a few beaches attracts a quiet retreat. From the winds, it is protected by the rocks that have swept the site. One part of Mesa Pigadia is covered with black volcanic sand, the other ‒ pebbles. The place is compact, surrounded by white sheer rocks. There are many picturesque caves in the rocks, which fishermen adapted for the winter parking of their shipmen. There are houses carved directly in the rock. The place is not accessible to the northern winds, in this its great advantage over many other beaches of the island.

Due to the fact that fishing boats are mooring in the winter season, there is a restaurant on the beach with excellent cuisine and a cozy atmosphere, whose owner also manages to charge 2 euros for the use of each chair lounge. In order to avoid problems with drinking water, it is necessary to stock up in advance and bring with it to the beach.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
