Cala Goloritze beach

Cala Goloritze is a tiny but incredibly photogenic corner of the Mediterranean in eastern Sardinia. This 200 m wild beach is located at the base of a deep gorge, 9 kilometers north of the Baunei. You can get here by boat from Santa Maria Navarrese or on foot from the parking lot of the Su Porteddu bar.

Beach description

The decoration of the rugged rocky coast is the 128-meter limestone pyramidal cliff of Perda Longa, adjacent to the Santu di Baunei mountain. Behind them begins the forest, drunk with the aromas of strawberry trees and oaks. Cala Goloritze beach with smooth white pebbles, turquoise water and marble rocks blends in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Little can be compared with the uniqueness of this place, recognized as a national natural monument and since 1993 taken under the protection of UNESCO.

When setting off for Cala Goloritze, take care of the essentials – an umbrella, beach shoes, food and water. Remember to grab snorkeling goggles. You will have a rare opportunity to explore the so-called Venusian pools (Piscine di Venere). These emerald “spots” in the blue bay are the result of underwater karst springs. The water in them is so clean that you can see in detail the shallow sandy bottom, a lot of fish, and if you're lucky – dolphins. In addition to scuba diving, Kala Goloritz also offers rock climbing, bird watching, trekking and boat trips.

When is it better to go

In terms of climate, the period from May to October is the most favorable for visiting Italy. The air and water temperature becomes ideal for a classic beach holiday, followed by a trip to the coast of Italy. However, it is necessary to remember that a long summer with the scorching sun, warm sea and pleasant sea breeze attracts crowds of tourists.
