Liscia Ruja beach

Liscia Ruja, the largest free public beach, is nestled in Porto Cervo, in northern Sardinia, along the shimmering Costa Smeralda, cradled between the quaint villages of Cala di Volpe and Portisco. It is affectionately known as Long Beach.

Beach description

The entry to the beach is situated near the hotel and not far from Peter Mann, boasting the most beautiful villas on the coastline. The beach is sandy, wide, and long, shaped in the form of an arc or a crescent moon, stretching across a large expanse of the coastline along a gently curving shallow bay. The water is a captivating blue-green, pure and warm; the sand, a blend of white and pink, is fine and inviting. Evergreen junipers, exotic citrus fruits, strawberry trees, and white flowers flourish within the beach territory. The beach offers ample space for families with children and large groups. It is particularly suitable for those who enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving. Even during the peak season, which falls in mid-August, the expansive and lengthy coastline ensures that everyone can find a spot.

Access to the beach is possible by car or by a vehicle rented in advance. The infrastructure on the beach includes all the essentials: a parking lot for cars, a cafe-bar serving delectable food and refreshing soft drinks, and rentals for parasols, loungers, boats, rafts, canoes, kayaks, and hydrocycles. Every year on August 15th, the beach becomes the venue for an exclusive party attended by dignitaries and celebrities. On this day, the bay becomes a showcase for some of the world's most luxurious yachts. From the beach, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of the islands of Montorio and Soffi.

When is it better to go

The best time to visit Sardinia for a beach vacation is typically during the summer months, when the island's climate is at its most inviting. However, the ideal period can vary depending on your preferences for weather, crowds, and activities.

  • June to August: This is the peak season for beachgoers. The weather is hot and sunny, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. However, these months also see the largest crowds and highest prices.
  • May and September: For those seeking a balance between pleasant weather and fewer tourists, the shoulder months of May and September are ideal. The temperatures are warm but not scorching, and the sea remains comfortable for swimming.
  • October to April: While off-season travel can offer solitude and lower prices, the weather is often too cool for traditional beach activities. However, this period is great for those interested in exploring Sardinia's cultural sites without the summer heat.

In conclusion, if a classic beach vacation is what you're after, aim for the period between late May and early September. For the warmest water and most vibrant beach life, July and August are your best bet, but be prepared for the crowds.
