Chia beach

Chia boasts some of the most exquisite beaches on the southern coast of Sardinia, near Cagliari, making it an ideal destination for those planning a beach vacation.

Beach description

The water is crystal clear, and the sand is fine and snow-white. Beautiful coral reefs are visible through the water column. The coastline stretches for 6 km. Along the beaches, a large forest inhabited by wild boars, deer, and other forest animals grows. In the lagoon, during spring, tourists can witness a flock of pink flamingos.

The depth increases gradually, making it shallow near the shore. Along the coast, there are numerous cafes and bars offering a wide assortment of dishes from the national cuisine. There is a paid parking lot and hotels, but showers and toilets are not available. The beach is accessible within 10 minutes from the eponymous town by a rented or personal car. Tourists from all over the world flock here to engage in windsurfing, surfing, diving, and snorkeling. The season begins in July and ends in September, with the peak of tourist activity in August, when the water temperature is ideal. Even during a storm, the water remains clear, the waves rise high, and the wind blows strongly.

Chia is a fashionable beach with a long history. The untouched nature astonishes with its beauty, the swimming season is extended, and the services offered are first-class. Among the attractions, not far from the beach, is Domus de Maria - a commune with tranquil bays and bathing spots. In the outskirts, visitors can explore numerous caves, grottoes, juniper thickets, and 30-meter dunes. For those interested in archaeological sites, the ancient Carthaginian city of Bithia is a must-visit, bearing witness to the existence of ancient civilizations.

When is it better to go

The best time to visit Sardinia for a beach vacation is typically during the summer months, when the island's climate is at its most inviting. However, the ideal period can vary depending on your preferences for weather, crowds, and activities.

  • June to August: This is the peak season for beachgoers. The weather is hot and sunny, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. However, these months also see the largest crowds and highest prices.
  • May and September: For those seeking a balance between pleasant weather and fewer tourists, the shoulder months of May and September are ideal. The temperatures are warm but not scorching, and the sea remains comfortable for swimming.
  • October to April: While off-season travel can offer solitude and lower prices, the weather is often too cool for traditional beach activities. However, this period is great for those interested in exploring Sardinia's cultural sites without the summer heat.

In conclusion, if a classic beach vacation is what you're after, aim for the period between late May and early September. For the warmest water and most vibrant beach life, July and August are your best bet, but be prepared for the crowds.
