Giosonas beach

Located in the north-eastern part of Chios on the coast of the Aegean. It got its name in honor of the legendary Jason, the leader of the Argonauts, who, according to legend, visited these places during the campaign for the Golden Fleece. This is one of the most outstanding beaches of the island, impressive in its scale and the unspoiled beauty of the wild.

Beach description

The impressive beachline stretches for several kilometers along the scenic hills covered with dense vegetation. Majestic mountains, which resemble a giant amphitheater, rise in the backgrounds.

The beach is covered with medium sized pebbles, which sometimes turn into coarse sand. The sea is incredibly clear and transparent, but relatively cool compared to other beaches. Depending on the weather and time of day, the water color varies from emerald green to bright turquoise.

The winds are often blowing here, and the waves are quite high, so Giosonas is one of the few beaches in Chios where surfing, yachting and other water sports can be practiced. Thanks to this, it is very popular with young people who prefer active vacation.

Giosonas is also appreciated by tourists looking for quiet and privacy. The huge size of the beach allows you to be alone with nature even in the midst of the season, and lovers of topless sunbathing will always be able to find a suitable place away from stranger's eyes.

The beach is also ideal for picnics, outdoor activities and noisy parties. In the shade of the coastal trees you can organize a barbecue and even set up a tent camp.

From the capital of the island to the beach it can be reached by car and travel time is no more than an hour. There is no direct bus connection to it, and with transfers, given the peculiarities of local transport, not always adhering to the schedule, it is inconvenient to get there.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

There are not so many dwellings in the vicinity of the beach that meet the usual European standards. These are mainly campsites, small cottages and rented rooms in guest houses. It’s all the more pleasant to find the hotel Iason right on the shore which is able to satisfy the most demanding customers. It offers spacious apartments with a private entrance, a kitchenette, a private bathroom and a balcony with sea views. The rooms have uninterrupted wireless Internet and satellite TV, air conditioning and a fan.

Buffet breakfast is included in the price. You can order food and drinks in your room if you wish. An outdoor pool with a cozy seating area, a barbecue corner, a children's playground and free parking are on site. Guests are free to use sun umbrellas and beach towels. The hotel is surrounded by a pine forest, and it takes two minutes on foot to get the beach. Guests emphasize the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff, as well as the friendly attitude of the hotel owner, Mr. Socrates.

Lovers of active pastime prefer the central part of the beach, closer to the Yoso Bar. It is equipped with umbrellas, deck chairs and other elements of the usual beach infrastructure. The bar is always noisy and fun, music sounds, and in the evenings, fashionable discos are organized.

Useful information

Just south of Josonas are the pebble beaches of Nagos and Vlichada, famous for the clear sea water and picturesque surroundings. They are protected from all sides by rocky capes, therefore they are almost calm. You can get to them by bicycle or car along a convenient asphalt road that stretches along the beach.

Lovers of outdoor activities alone with nature will surely enjoy a walk around the beach, during which you can visit the forest gorge with a picturesque canyon and crystal waterfalls flowing along its stone arches. A route map is offered at the local tour desk, and you can use the services of a guide if you wish.

Five kilometers from Josonas is the small resort town of Kardamilla, known for its picturesque port and maritime museum. Its description can be found in the records of the ancient Greek historian Thucydides, and the narrow, paved with marble streets to this day have conveyed the amazing atmosphere of ancient Chios.
