Beach description
Platis Gialos is one of the longest beach on Mykonos. It's situated in a hilly bay and it's covered in soft golden sand. Its features are a smooth descent, low amount of waves, bright blue water and no winds. The majority of visitors can be seen in the afternoon. So it's recommended to find good sports at 8-9 o'clock in the morning.
Please note: Platis Gialos is considered to be a place for family travels. Nudism and other extraordinary types of visitors aren't welcome here. The beach is located 5,5 km away from the island's capital. Buses from Mykonos come here from 11:00 to 22:00. You can also reach Platis Gialos on foot, a rented car or a taxi. There's also a pier nearby where you can buy tickets for a sea bus (which goes to the island's capital).
A piece of advice for photographers: climb one of the hills that surround the beach. Amazing views open up from here. You can take especially good pictures during sunset and dawn.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

From Platis Gialos you can reach the island of Delos – the greatest monument of Greek culture and religion. There are the remains of an amphitheater, agora, residential buildings, treasures and temples. There is a museum near the ruins, which contains the most valuable artifacts of the region.
At Platis Gialos operates a water taxi that takes tourists to Elia, Super Paradise and other locations on the island. The airport is located nearby. That allows guests of the beach to admire beautiful planes at a short distance.
