Beach description
Orkos Beach is renowned for its picturesque views, the atmosphere of privacy, and excellent conditions for wave enthusiasts. Its kilometer-long sandy beach is flanked by rocks that divide the beach into two distinct areas:
- The first section, spanning 700 meters, is framed by an emerald tapestry of numerous trees and bushes growing along the shore;
- The second section consists of two picturesque bays, each measuring 100-200 meters, with expansive sandbanks nestled between pinnacles and rocky outcrops that gently slope into the water.
The stunning landscape of Orkos is further enhanced by gently sloping hills dotted with mild cedars, and the incredibly clear seawater, where the sand on the bottom is as light-colored as that on the beach itself.
Similar to neighboring beaches, Orkos boasts favorable wind and wave conditions that are ideal for windsurfing. However, unlike the waters off Mikri Vigla coast, there is no such dense concentration of kiters per square meter of water area here. Kiting solo or with a few friends will be a delightful experience for those seeking to avoid crowded spots. Nonetheless, novices should exercise caution, as this beach does not yet offer lifeguard services.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit Naxos for a beach vacation is during the summer months, particularly from June to September. During this period, the weather is typically warm and sunny, ideal for beach activities and swimming in the Aegean Sea.
- June: The start of the summer offers pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, making it a perfect time for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.
- July and August: These are the peak months for tourism. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, crystal-clear waters, and a plethora of beachside activities. However, it's important to book accommodations in advance as this is the high season.
- September: As the summer winds down, the temperatures remain warm, but the island becomes less crowded. This is an excellent time for visitors who prefer a quieter setting to enjoy the beaches of Naxos.
Regardless of the month, Naxos boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, with Agios Prokopios and Plaka Beach being among the most popular. To fully enjoy the island's offerings, consider the balance between the lively high season and the tranquil shoulder months when planning your trip.

Infrastructure
Orkos Beach is an absolutely wild corner of seclusion, offering a serene escape for those who are not in search of bustling infrastructure. For maximum comfort, one might consider the neighboring beaches. However, it is advisable to arrive at Orkos Beach fully equipped with all necessary gear, food, and other essentials for a comfortable stay. Despite the remote feel, access to the coast is relatively straightforward, ensuring that visitors are unlikely to encounter difficulties.
To discover the nearest cafes and taverns, a leisurely stroll is required. Venturing to Mikri Vigla will reveal a wider array of dining options. Yet, there is a delightful nuance for those wishing to unwind at Orkos Beach: the Orkos Beach Hotel. Situated a mere 30 meters from the sandy shore, this hotel boasts traditional Cycladic-style décor and offers 47 well-appointed rooms, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay.
