Psili Ammos beach

The most popular beach in the southern part of the island is Psili Ammos. It is located near the village of Potos. The beach is equipped with modern infrastructure. Nearby are shops, taverns and bars, and tamarisk thickets and small dunes are considered its real decoration.

Beach description

The beach has a small area, so in the peak season there is quite crowded. It is better to arrive early to take a free lounger and a parking space.

The beach is sandy, and because of the constantly blowing winds in this area, on its territory there are even small dunes. By the way, the latter also argues in favor of surfing - stable waves will create ideal conditions for conquerors of the waves.

The turquoise hue of water is in harmony with the greenery on the coast, creating a unique palette, that will make a fantastic background for pictures from the rest. The sea here is clear and pure, however, during a storm, a lot of algae and other marine garbage is left on the coast.

As for the bottom, it is rocky and uncomfortable, so bathing of little children here is quite risky. And besides, the depth begins almost immediately off the coast, so only experienced swimmers can swim here.

There are several options, how to get to Psili Ammos Beach:

  • From Potos on foot. If you are not afraid of a distance of 5 km - why not. There is delightful air and colourful views, so a walk will cause aesthetic pleasure. For the elderly people and small children, it may seem tedious, so this category of tourists the second method is more suitable.
  • By taxi or rented car. The most comfortable way to get to the beach, but the most expensive financially.

Psili Ammos is mainly popular among young people. In particular, it was chosen by surfers and rest lovers with tents.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

There are sun loungers and parasols on the beach, although green spaces near the shore create a natural shadow. Therefore, if you want to return home with a tan, you can not to additionally protect yourself from the sun with a parasol. It is enough to have cream against sunburn and cap.

There is a large parking lot in front of the beach, so there will be no problems with parking - there is enough space for everyone.

If besides a beach holiday you are interested in the rich cultural heritage of Greece, you can go to the nearby Monastery of the Archangel Michael. Certainly, make sure you have the appropriate appearance. Men should wear long trousers, and women in long skirts and long-sleeve jacket that covers the neckline. A headscarf is required.

This convent was built in the XVIII century and is one of the largest and oldest on the island of Thassos. It stores part of the Holy Nail from the crucifixion of Jesus. The monastery is located on the edge of the cliff, so its observation desk offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea.
