La Push beach

Located on the Pacific coast in the northwestern region of Washington state, La Push Beach is a stunning part of the Olympic National Park, safeguarded by state protections. The picturesque coastline is segmented into three distinct areas - First Beach, Second Beach, and Third Beach - each offering its own unique allure to visitors planning a serene beach vacation.

Beach description

The First Beach is the most accessible and lively. The coast, curved in the form of a horseshoe, is covered with small pebbles and giant, bizarrely shaped trees carried ashore by the ocean. It is surrounded by picturesque cliffs where sea birds nest - a perfect place for surfers, fishermen, and picnickers on the seaside. One of the few beaches where bonfires are officially allowed, it also offers convenient parking just a few meters from the shore.

To reach Second Beach, one must walk about a kilometer along a forest trail. The path is straightforward, with descents equipped with steps. The beach is sandy and the longest in La Push. It's surrounded by rocks that "sing" when the wind blows in a certain direction. The forest fills the air with divine aromas, and the combination of birdsong with the rustle of the waves is calming. From the coast, there is an excellent view of the islands scattered in the ocean, where one can watch the playful antics of dolphins and sea lions.

The Third Beach is the most remote and sparsely populated in La Push. It's also accessed by a scenic forest trail, which can sometimes be quite slippery due to the humidity on the coast. The coast is surrounded by bizarre rocks and covered with fine sand mixed with shells. Driftwood, brought to the coast at sunset, resembles mystical characters - no wonder some episodes of the fantastic saga "Twilight" were shot here.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit the West coast of the USA for a beach vacation largely depends on the type of experience you're seeking. However, a general recommendation can be made for the period from late spring to early fall.

  • Late Spring (May to June): This is a great time to enjoy the beaches with fewer crowds and mild weather. The ocean temperatures are starting to warm up, and the days are getting longer.
  • Summer (July to August): Summer is the peak season for beachgoers. Expect warm weather, sunny skies, and lively beach towns. However, be prepared for larger crowds and higher accommodation prices.
  • Early Fall (September to October): This is often considered the ideal time for a beach vacation on the West coast. The weather remains warm, but the summer crowds have dissipated. The ocean is at its warmest, and you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation on the West coast is when it aligns with your personal preferences for weather, water activities, and crowd levels.
