Will Rogers State Beach

Situated between Santa Monica Bay and Pacific Coast Highway, this sand beach is a perfect place to get the chocolate suntan and to see the majestic sunset. Will Rogers State Beach is always crowded because it is popular not only among sunbathing fans, but also utdoor enthusiasts and water sports fans. This is the beach with developed infrastructure, high waves, and beautiful views, that is, a typical Californian beach, with the spirit of freedom and rebelliaon in the air.

Beach description

Will Rogers State Beach has better water quality in comparison to other beaches of Los Angeles county, so it is an excellent choice for those who wants to spend much time in water, or come here with children. It is less overcrowded than the neighboring Santa Monica Beach, and even has a spacious parking lot. Access to ocean is prohibited since 0:00 AM. At 6 AM, the beach is already open for everyone. Making bonfires, launching fireworks, and using glass tare are prohibited.

Similar to the other Californian beaches, Will Rogers State Beach has a smooth water entry, and depth doesn't start for a long distance. There are no stones and underwater pits by the shore, so it will be no unpleasant surprises under water. Stable wind blows on the beach and creates confident and permanent waves. They are rather "soft" here and are perfect for swimmers and novice surfers.

The beach was named in honor of the actor Will Rogers. In the 1920ies, he bought land and built a ranch on the shore. He owned 186 acres of land along the shore on the territory which is now called Pacific Palisades. Rogers dies in the plane crash in 1935. And when his widow Betty died in 1944, the ranch became a state park.

When is the best time to go?

To lay off on the beaches of the mainland, it is best to come in the summer, when a sufficiently warm temperature is settled for swimming. Places like Florida or the Hawaiian Islands are comfortable all year round.
