Achivadolimni beach

Located in the southernmost part of the bay of Milos, which is the crater of an extinct ancient volcano. This is the longest beach on the island, resembling a giant crescent. It offers magnificent views of Adamantas and Plaka, the capital of Milos, as well as the highest point of the island, Mount Profitis Ilias.

The beach got its name in honor of the only lake in Milos, located at the western end of the beach. Achivadolimni is translated from Greek as “clam lake”, and indeed, its bottom is literally teeming with various representatives of aquatic fauna. An asphalt road leads from Plaka and Adamantas to the beach, along which regular buses run. An asphalt road leads from Plaka and Adamantas to the beach, along which regular buses run.

Beach description

Achivadolimni is the best beach on Milos for windsurfing and kitesurfing. From May to september, the famous Meltemi rising waves 1.5 m high blows here. In spite of the absence of rescuers, athletes can feel safe - if they fall, or any other trouble happens, Meltemi does not carry teh extreme sports fans into the open sea but, on the contrary, returns to the beach.

A gentle hill which is an excellent starting site for paragliders, rises above the beach eastern part. People wishing to view the neighborhood from a birds eye view are storming the place: from above, the beach looks like a giant horseshoe surrounded with picturesque rocks and washed by the sea of fantastic bright blue color.

Beside athletes, families with small kids also often visit thsi beach. They are attracted by soft golden sand, shallow sea and tamarisk trees the shadow of which is a shelter from afternoon heat. Achivadolimni is popular among tourists avoiding crowds and looking for privacy in the open air, including people who enjoy taking sun baths topless.

The beach is not equipped; deck chairs and umbrellas are offered to the taverns visitors. That is why it's better to think about everything you need in advance. Don't forget about sun protection creams, hats, and special shoes. In the high season, it is very easy to get sunburn or heat shock.

People who love hiking can walk to the western beach edge above which, the small volcanic reef rises. It provides a marvellous view of the bay, the surrounding lands and neighboring islands, and the desert part of Mylos.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
