Sarakiniko beach

Sarakiniko is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful beaches of Milos. The unique, almost lunar landscape makes it instantly recognizable. Every vacationer in Milos must definitely visit it. There are not many similar places in the world - the beach is incredibly photogenic and in its expanses amazing photo shoots are obtained. However, lovers of calm relaxation and silence are far from delighted with this corner of nature as in the summer season there are usually a lot of people here.

Beach description

The beach is situated in the northeast part of Mylos island, just 5 km away from Adamas. It is the ascetic area of white rock "processed" by water and so made perfectly smooth. So, there is neither sand nor pebbles here, only white mat rock. Small sand sites are still present by the very edge, but this sand still differs from usual sand of Greek beaches. Its layer is rather thin, and it's rough to lay on it. Its advantage is the convenient water entry. Waters here are rather deep, and many tourists enjoy diving from cliffs and explore the depths of underwater caves. There are no waves here because cliffs form secluded pools, but the wind is constant. Water is turbid, the bottom is sand with some ooze.

Moreover, the beach has no vegetation, so there will be no shadow as well. If you want to visit Sarakiniko for the entire day, don't forget about the umbrella People who know this beach already advise not to be limited by it but explore the neighboring rocks and caves. There is an old mine here as well. If you decide to explore it, turn on your cell phone flash light because giant slopes occur in dark places. Don't forget about convenient shoes: the floor can be slippery, especially after the rain.

In order to get to the beach, you can drive a convenient even road by car, or use a scheduled bus to Sarakiniko that goes there several times a day. Some hotels arrange private shuttles for their guests.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

Despite the fact that Sarakiniko is a popular and crowded beach, there are no points of sale or beach bars where you can buy drinks and snacks. In the midst of summer, of course, some enterprising locals can walk and sell bottled water, but you should not really count on this. Take everything you need with you, and just in case, add another bottle of water.

Near the beach is the hotel Sarakiniko View Studios, built in accordance with the traditional architecture of the Cyclades. Its rooms have everything you need and even a small private kitchen. The hotel also provides rental services.

There is no entertainment on the beach. A popular pastime is considered diving. Divers are especially fond of exploring the wreck and underwater caves. This place is perfect for secluded relaxation and reunion with nature.
