Sykia beach

Sykia or "fig tree" is a unique place, which is a small wild beach inside the cave without a ceiling. The absence of a roof allows sunlight to penetrate inside it and create a cozy atmosphere.

Beach description

The cave has a round shape with a narrow band of pebble and sand beach, and calm transparent emerald sea. Sikia Beach is situated in the southwest part of the island, and one can get into its territory by the convenient sea way, taking a boat and swimming under the rocky arch. Tourists who came here on a yacht or a motor boat, will have to moor in front of the cave entry, and get to the beach by swimming or using an inflatable rubber dinghy. Another way to get to the beach is to follow the road passing by the Saint Johns Church.

Sikia Beach is a popular place of recreation where locals and tourists enjoy going for swimming. The beach has no infrastructure but which is perfect for pleasant pastime for several hours. For comfortable movement on the beach and the surrounding cliffs, special shoes are recommended.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
