Plathiena beach

Plathiena is a small, little-visited beach located in a beautiful and cozy bay in the western part of Milos, not far from the island's capital Plaka. You can get to it by car along a narrow winding road that goes past the Firopotamos bay, as well as by sea - on a yacht or a sea taxi.

Beach description

The beach zone on Platiena is only 200 m long. The beach is non-equipped and has no facilities. Its surface is covered with fine sand of platinum shade, and is surrounded with picturesque rock formations. Tamarisks growing on the beach provide the natural shadow. Water entry is smooth on Platiena Beach, water is transparent, so it's a suitable place for swimming and family recreation. Because of the absence of the standard beach infrastructure, you should take all the things you need, such as food, water, and equipment when you come here.

From the beach, the visitors enjoy the magnificent view of the sea, the small island of Akrati, Arkadies, Arkudes, and Mantrakia. Due to its small size, Platiena is absolutely unsuitable for walks along the beach.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
