El Portillo beach
Playa El Portillo Beach is a long, golden yellow sandy beach in the north of the Dominican Republic on the Samana Peninsula, just a few minutes from downtown Las Terrenas. The place is especially popular among local families due to the shallow water, while the beach is still quiet and little known among tourists. From October to January, excellent conditions for kitesurfing are created at El Portillo, during this period moderate windy weather prevails on the beach.

Beach description
El Portillo is an almost five-kilometer curved beach with beautiful nature and well-developed infrastructure for a comfortable stay. Beautiful golden sand, shimmering blue Atlantic Ocean and crystal clear water create ideal conditions for a relaxing holiday. The beach is very sloping and literally merges with the ocean, so El Portillo is very popular among families with small children.
Near the coast of this beach there is a beautiful coral reef, which is replete with colorful fish and unusual corals. Therefore, snorkelling and diving, as well as kitesurfing, are popular at El Portillo.
When is it better to go?
In summer, tropical rains and typhoons – are frequent guests in the Dominican Republic. Therefore, it is better to go there in winter, from November to March, when the air warms up to a comfortable 24-30 degrees, and the weather is dried up.
