Las Ballenas beach

Playa Las Ballenas Beach is the most beautiful and quiet place in the western part of the resort town of Las Terrenas in the north of the Dominican Republic. Playa Las Ballenas is translated as "whale beach." Indeed, the beach is surrounded by three small cliffs that resemble whales in shape. Palm trees a few meters from the water give this place a special appeal.

Beach description

Every morning on the beach you can buy fresh fish and lobster from local fishermen. Las Ballenas is an incredible combination of a quiet vacation by the ocean and the opportunity to visit the best restaurants and hotels, which are a couple of minutes walk from the beach.

The length of Las Ballenas is 2.5 km, although it seems that the coast is endless. The white sandy beach is rarely crowded. The atmosphere of this place is calm and relaxing, many come to Las Ballenas to enjoy the enchanting sunset. And the shallow water and the absence of waves on this beach allow families with young children to spend time comfortably.

This beach is also unique in that it is in this part of the island that a river flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Also on the territory of Las Ballenas there is one of the best sailing clubs in the Dominican Republic, which trains beginners and provides equipment for rent.

When is it better to go?

In summer, tropical rains and typhoons – are frequent guests in the Dominican Republic. Therefore, it is better to go there in winter, from November to March, when the air warms up to a comfortable 24-30 degrees, and the weather is dried up.
