Punta Rucia beach

Located in the province of Puerto Plata in the north of the Dominican Republic. Punta Rucia is translated from Spanish as “brown peaks”. According to legend, this name was given to the beach by Columbus himself, impressed by the majestic beauty of the mountains surrounding the coast. The beach is located in the Isabella Bay and is a gigantic coastline, covered with snow-white silk sand and framed by dense thickets of mangrove trees. The sea in the lagoon is warm and calm, like in a pool, has amazing turquoise color.

Beach description

Punta Rucia is an ideal place for a calm relaxing holiday alone with unspoiled nature. There are few tourists here, mostly fishermen and local merchants offering fruit and drinks.

The beach is not equipped with sunbeds and awnings - you can hide from the heat in the shade of trees, and use sanitary facilities in coastal cafes and restaurants. There are a sufficient number of them - from the simplest eateries under a reed roof to stylish beach clubs with an exquisite menu.

The main attraction of these places is the tiny sandy island of Cayo Arena, surrounded by a giant coral reef. It is inhabited by the most diverse representatives of the marine fauna, and the clear shallow water makes this place simply ideal for snorkeling. The island can be reached by motor boat, travel time is about 15 minutes. You can rent snorkeling equipment at Cayo Arena, as well as grab a snack and quench your thirst at the beach bar.

When is it better to go?

In summer, tropical rains and typhoons – are frequent guests in the Dominican Republic. Therefore, it is better to go there in winter, from November to March, when the air warms up to a comfortable 24-30 degrees, and the weather is dried up.
