Elea beach

Located on the west coast of the Peloponesse ten kilometers north of Cypressia. On the outskirts of the beach, the Neda River flows into the sea, originating on Mount Likeo and flowing along a picturesque gorge overgrown with dense forest. Here is a favorite habitat of rare Caretta turtles that go ashore to lay eggs.

Beach description

The many kilometers long beachline is covered with soft golden sand and washed by the glass-clear emerald waters of the Ionian Sea. Along the beach a dense pine forest stretches, which gives a life-saving shade and exudes a heady aroma of resin and pine needles.

The beach is not organized, there are only toilets and showers, but, despite this, is rather popular. Every year, a lot of connoisseurs of "wild" rest flock here to have a picnic or camp with a tent under the shade of spreading pine trees. There are specially dedicated barbecue places in the forest, firemen and policemen keep watch the order.

Elea Beach is also popular with water sports enthusiasts, especially in August, when the wind season begins and the big waves rise.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

You can have a tasty and good snack in the Myths Elea tavern on the beach. There are several bars with drinks, fast food and ice cream. Most restaurants and cafes are located in the village nearby. There are also shops, bicycle, motorbike and sports equipment rentals.

Since most tourists prefer to stay in tents and campsites, in the vicinity of the beach it is quite problematic to find a comfortable hotel or villa. Therefore, holidaymakers who like all amenities prefer to stay in Kyparissia or Kalo Nero located a few kilometers away. One such option is Diamond Elea Stone Apartments attracting tourists with its proximity to the sea, well-groomed territory and excellent service. The rooms are equipped with kitchenettes and spacious balconies, satellite TV and free internet. The wide terrace offers amazing views of the sea, and the pine forest surrounding the hotel gives a unique aroma.

A good road leads from the village to the beach abutting a large free parking lot.

Useful information

The surroundings of Elea are unusually interesting and picturesque, therefore, once in these places, you should not confine yourself to beach holidays. You can walk in the shady cool gorge along which the Neda River flows and admire the ancient stone bridges, mysterious caves and colorful waterfalls. In the summer months, the river grows smaller, so walking along its channel will not be difficult.

A few kilometers from Elea is the famous plateau of Foloi, which is also called the "balcony of Elijah". In addition to the breathtaking panoramic view from above, you can admire the porful relic oaks, taken under the protection of the organization "Natura 2000".

And, of course, you should definitely get to know the rare sea turtles nesting on the beach, and if you are lucky, even swim with them in the sea.
