Kyllini beach

Located in Elijah Prefecture in the northwestern part of the Peloponesse. It adjoins the port of the resort town of Killini, which is connected by ferry with Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Such a convenient location attracts many transit tourists to the beach who want to freshen up at sea before heading further.

Beach description

The posh sandy beach, which is almost ten kilometers long, is one of the best in Greece and is marked by the prestigious Blue Flag. The sea is shallow and war, sky blue color. The entry into the water is smooth, the bottom is sandy and completely safe. The sea is calm in the morning and resembles a giant pool, with small waves, rising in the evening. Ideal for resting with children and not quite an appropriate place for diving and snorkeling.

The beach is equipped with free sunbeds and shed, locker rooms, toilets, and showers. There is enough space for "wild" tourists who want to sit under their umbrellas. But nights with tents and campfires are forbidden here, which is strictly monitored by the staff of the rescue station.

There are various water attractions, sports grounds, inflatable children's slides and trampolines at guests' disposal. You can rent a boat and go on a fascinating sea travel to the Zakinf scenic island, located nearby.

There are numerous taverns and bars along the beach, where you can eat and freshen up with drinks. There is a quite specious parking lot, from which an asphalt road leads to the port.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Useful information

The surroundings of Kyllini attract many tourists not only with thermal springs and wonderful beach vacations, but also with unique sights located nearby.

Right above the city, on a picturesque hill, an old medieval fortress rises, with a fantastic view of the sea and surroundings. And ancient Olympia is located an hour way from Kyllini, which can be reached both by car and by bus. Ancient Greek athletes trained here many centuries ago, and now, every four years, they light the Olympic flame. Since those ancient times, the stadium, thermal baths, temples and other valuable historical buildings have been perfectly preserved. You should visit the Archaeological Museum, which contains a unique collection of ancient artifacts.

On the way to Olympia you should stop by one of the most famous and oldest wineries of Peloponnese and buy the famous local wine "Mavrodaphne".

A boat trip on a ferry to the island of Zakynthos will give an unforgettable experience. There you can see the remains of an ancient galley of smugglers, resting on the bottom of the picturesque bay of Navagio, as well as swim with sea turtles in a unique marine reserve.
