Epidavros beach

Epidavros is a historical region in the northeast of the Peloponesse, famous for the grandiose ancient theater that has been well preserved to this day. The coastal zone of Epidavros is conditionally divided into three parts - Nea Epidavros, Archia Epidavros and Palea Epidavros. The beaches here are not the best in the Peloponesse, but their minor flaws are more than compensated by the amazing landscapes surrounding them from the sea and land and invariably attracting a lot of tourists to these places.

Beach description

Palea Epidavros is located next to the village of the same name, which is the center of Epidavros resort and is considered its urban beach. it is relatively small and quite noisy, as it is surrounded by numerous hotels and taverns. There is a fishing harbor and yacht parking (marina) next to it. The beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, free shower and toilet. The beach here is sand-and-shingle, the sea is shallow and warm, quite transparent, given the proximity of the port.

There is a large modern sport complex and a well-equipped children's playground on the promenade. There is a diving center, a rental of boats, catamarans and kayaks in the port. Here you can rent a car, bike or scooter, buy a tour in one of the numerous travel agencies.

To the left of the urban beach there is the Church of St. Nicolas, followed by Vagonia beach. It is much quieter and cozier than in the village, the sea is much cleaner and more transparent, amazing blue color. The beach is covered with sand mixed with fine pebbles, the bottom is comfortable and safe. The beach is not equipped, therefore, you should take care of everything you need yourself.

Next to Vagonia is Kalamaki beach, surrounded by magnificent orange groves and pine trees. The water here is crystal clear, the shore is covered with even fine pebbles. The beach is not equipped, but it is possible to snack and freshen up with soft drinks in a small cafe. Divers will be able to explore the sea cliffs (carefully -sea urchins!), and the visuals will be delighted with the magnificent panoramic view from the beach to the village, harbor and nearby islands.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

In the village and its environs, you can easily find the right accommodation for every taste and budget. Young people and budget tourists prefer to stay at campsites along the coast. The most popular among them is Nicholas Camp, located to the right of the port next to the Small Amphitheater of Epidavros.

Among hotels, tourists are always interested in Apollon Hotel located right on the beach within walking distance from the beach. Useful information

The local places are extremely interesting and attract many tourists every year. The pearl of the ancient Epidaurus is considered to be a giant ancient amphitheater located a few kilometers from the beach. It is surrounded by a pine forest and is a trully fantastic building with unique acoustics (ringing of fallen coins is perfectly heard in the last rows).

In ancient Hellas, the theater was considered one of the ways of healing the soul, and performances were unique sessions of psychotherapy. Nowadays, theater festivals are held here again, which are very popular. Well, where else can you see antique productions in such grandiose scenery?!

On the beach, to the right of the port of Palea Epidavros there is another ancient amphitheater, smaller, and on the other side of the village, next to Nea Palea Epidavros, there is a unique old fortress and a picturesque canyon where you can go rafting.
