Kounopetra beach

It is located on the southern coast of the Paliki Peninsula, which is famous for its red-orange sand containing healing minerals.

Beach description

the Beach, like the region itself, is named after a large rock, the movement of which could be observed early with an unarmed look. In the summer of 1953 there was a powerful earthquake, part of the rock was destroyed and observation of it ceased.

the coastline is rather long, you can rent beds and umbrellas, there is a small restaurant and several small cafes with sandwiches, beer and fast food. The beach is surrounded by picturesque hills with white and blue healing clay, from which cosmetic masks for the face and body are made.

Turtle nests can sometimes be found on the shore, so there is no especially developed infrastructure. The main attractions of Kunopetra are the unique red sand and a colorful Greek mill, which produces great photos.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
