Megas Lakos beach

It is located in the south of the Paliki Peninsula in the vicinity of Lixouri, it is a continuation of the famous Xi Beach. There is an asphalt road leading to the beach, and abutting in a convenient parking lot. From Lixouri, you can walk or cycle, enjoying the scenic views and the stupefying aromas of southern pine, juniper, and cypress trees.

Beach description

Megas Lakos, unlike its crowded popular neighbor, is relatively calm and quiet. The beach is covered in unique red sand enriched by minerals, occasional patches of clay used for cosmetic and healing purposes can be encountered. The shallow warm turquoise sea attracts tourists with children here, and children enjoy swimming here very much.

The beach has all the necessities, you can rent umbrellas and deck chairs, and some cafes nearby offer free sunbeds. Especially popular is the "Fish Bones Terrace" restaurant with its great food, affordable prices, friendly personnel and amazing view of the sea.

When is it better to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
