Platia Ammos beach
A huge "wild" beach about 700 meters long located on the west coast of the island and is deservedly recognized as one of the best in Kefalonia. It is surrounded by impregnable cliffs, the sea in this place is deep, surprisingly transparent and often turbulent. The beach is covered with the smallest white pebbles, and the color of the water strikes with its divine blue of waters.

You can only get to the beach by car as no public transport goes here. Making your way from the road to the sea before the 2014 earthquake was harder, as visitors needed to climb down 400 steep steps, going back was the same. After the earthquake the ladder partially collapsed, so now the best way to get here is by boat. But all these problems are well compensated by the breathtaking nature of landscapes and unique calmness and quietness of this place.
The water is so clear that the sea bottom is still visible even when the depth reaches 20 meters. This is why divers especially like this place, and other tourists enjoy exploring the underwater world as well. It should be noted that the sea here has a strong current so it's not the best fit if you're planning to bring your children.
Platia Ammos isn't equipped with all the beach necessities, so umbrellas and deck chairs need to be taken care of beforehand; alternatively you can come after noon, when the sun goes beyond the mountains. Don't forget to bring your own food, beverages and other necessary things, as there's no cafes or shops around, even mobile connection is non-existent here.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
