Lourdas beach

As one of the rare sandy havens on Kefalonia, Lourdas Beach is the perfect choice for those who prefer to avoid the discomfort of pebbles. Here, you can effortlessly glide in and out of the crystal-clear waters without the need to crawl. Nestled in the south of the island, close to the charming village of Lourdata, Lourdas Beach is a favored spot for its convenient location. A mere 20-minute drive from the capital, Argostoli, ensures that your tranquil beach day is easily within reach.

Beach description

The beach is primarily covered in sand, with occasional patches of pebbles. Those who have visited Lourdas say that you don't need slippers or any other special footwear. Slippers aren't necessary both for walking on the beach and for entering the water, as the sea bottom is flat and safe. Sea urchins are also not a concern in this area.

The descent into the water is smooth, making it comfortable and safe for both elderly visitors and young children. It is advised to bring lifebuoys and arm sleeves for children, as the depth increases rather quickly. Despite the sandy sea bottom, the water remains clear and blue.

Lourdas is quite expansive and stretches out generously. Occasionally, you can partake in open-air parties that last all night long, but these are a rare occurrence here. Therefore, if you prefer a nightlife-centric vacation, this may not be the ideal destination. The beach is typically uncrowded, as its size and length ensure a sense of calmness and tranquility.

Useful information

  • In the afternoon, a strong wind often rises, forming powerful waves. For windsurfers, this is a plus, for families with children, it is a minus. The second should better come to the sea in the morning, when it is guaranteed to remain calm.
  • There is ample free parking near the beach, so you can get here by renting a car, ATV or bike. The local bus stops right on the road along the beach. So you can use public transport.
  • Raging waves during a storm carry stones to the shore, so the boundary line between the sea and land is dotted with boulders. For those who swim poorly, this can create some inconvenience.
