Makris Gialos beach
Makris Gialos, or Makris Yialos, as it is also called by locals, has a very convenient location. It is located on the territory of the capital of island, in its tourist region of Lassi. At the peak of the season, it is impossible to push through here, but this does not discourage tourists and local residents from swimming and sunbathing here.

This might be the perfect beach to bring children and learning swimmers to. The sandy surface guarantees two positives for these categories of tourists:
- children forget about their parents while creating masterpieces out of sand;
- and those who are learning to swim will like the smooth descent into water and gradual depth rise.
The waves aren't high - enough for basic water activities, but not for surfing.
Even though the sea bottom is sandy, the waves are still clear and clean. Children don't want to get out of water because it's so warm. The shoreline is absolutely safe. But if you want to ensure your childrens' safety, buy arm sleeves for them and lay nearby to relax and sunbathe. If, of course, you're not disturbed by the scurrying visitors...
And there are a lot of visitors during Summer. If you don't like crowds, search for more solitary beaches. But you won't find the same conveniences, activities and atmosphere anywhere else but on Makris Gialos.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure
This beach will satisfy any wishes of visitors who cannot imagine their vacation without comfort and civilization.
The KWS center, offering various water sports entertainment for all ages is open here. The visitors have a possibility to ride banana boat of water sofas, enjoy water ski, or wakeboard. Experienced instructors will train you and will keep controlling you during the session.
The beach has all the facilities:

- water closets;
- shower stalls;
- free parking lot.
In order to make a light meal, you don't have to change and to leave the beach. On the beach territory, you can also find simple cafes to make a light meal. However, they are closed from 6 to 7 PM, and at the same time, the most tourists leave the beach. People with romantic hearts catch the moment and stay in the more serene and private setting to meet the sunset.

- You can choose deck chairs for every taste and color – there are even models with safes and a telephone! Renting a sunbed for a day, depending on the type of the latter, will cost from 6 to 8 Euros.
- Although there is parking, parking on it is very difficult. Especially after 10.00. Some park at random, blocking the already narrow passage. Therefore, it is better not to drive here by car, so as not to be nervous . Buses run regularly from Argostolly to the beach, with a fare of only 1.70 euros. You can get to the beach from the island’s capital for only 5 euros.
