Ammoglossa beach

The beach is located in the north-east of the island of Lefkada, very close to the city of Lefkada. Ammoglossa is located directly opposite the main attraction of the island, the ancient castle, by the floating bridge. The very name of the recreation area (translated as “sand tongue” or “tongue of sand”) speaks of the sand cover on the coast, which alternates with large stones and pebbles.

Beach description

The winds in the beach area rarely bother the guests, mostly calm. Despite the convenient location, the infrastructure on the beach is not developed, there are no standard amenities in the form of sunbeds and umbrellas. The beach area is very small, so sometime there are quite a lot of people.

The sandy beach conditionally divides the sea into two zones. On the one side, which is closer to the castle, it is not deep, ideal for family vacation with kids. And on the other side, a little deeper and with little waves, depending on the weather. The distance to the city is only 2 km, so it is convenient to walk to the beach on foot, especially since the road to see the local attractions and the lighthouse. There are no noisy places here, so the beach is more suitable for lonely vacationers, who prefer a quiet rest, or for families.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
