Nidri beach

Located on the east coast of Lefkada and is the main beach of the village of Nydri, the island’s most popular resort. A small fishing village, which can be completely circumvented in twenty minutes, is distinguished by its special color, which is felt literally from the first minutes of your stay. The locals are extremely friendly and do everything possible to please their guests, and the traditional cuisine is beyond praise.

Beach description

Nydri beach is quite long, sometimes narrow, covered with fine pebbles with small areas of sand. The entrance to the water is smooth and comfortable, bottom is flat, sandy-pebble and does not require special shoes. Storms and strong waves are rare here, so Nydri is the perfect place for vacation with kids.

Above the coast, the prestigious Blue Flag is waving, which is guarantee of a comfortable stay in environmentally friendly medium. The beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, toilets, showers and changing cabins. The main amenities is located in the center part of the city, and the privacy lovers should move a little to the north, where there are no noisy bars and taverns, but trees with a life-saving shade descend right down to the beach.

A huge number of water entertainments are offered on the beach, there are sports-grounds and children's playgrounds with inflatable slides and trampolines. Visitors can rent a jet ski, a boat or a canoe, ride on banana, water tube or water ski, as well as go sup-boarding or parasailing. All the necessary sports equipment is available at the rental points, the prices are practically identical to other Greek resorts.

It is very easy to get to Nydri from any point of Lefkada. It is located just in seventeen kilometers from the island's capital and is connected to it by a modern highway. Regular buses run from Lefkasi to Nydri, and the bus station is in the center of the village. The same convenient highway leads south to the port of Vassiliki, which is connected by ferry to other Greek islands.

Special attention should be paid to the successful geographical location of the resort, which is protected from the western wind by a kind of amphitheater of mountains and hills overgrown with olive groves and dense coniferous forest. The bay is also covered by neighboring islands on all sides and resembles a huge lake with crystal clear emerald water. Thanks to this, Nydri is a real paradise for yachtsmen who have loved the local port for their mooring. There are also numerous sailing schools here, and the annual lonian Regatta, one of the largest yachting events in the Mediterranean is held here in the second half of September.

Nearby there are numerous villas, hotels and apartments that offer visitors comfortable living conditions for every taste and budget.

Nydri is a real treasury for lovers of outdoor activities and picturesque natural landscapes. In the vicinity of the village there are a huge number of hiking and cycling routes, which can be found at any tour desk. The most popular and fascinating is to the famous waterfalls of Nydri, which are located four kilometers north of the village. They are most full in spring, and at the height of summer, the gorge is a real oasis of majestic beauty and coolness. A rocky forest path leads to it, so you should take care of comfortable closed shoes. On the way, you can stop to rest in a small cozy tavern.

Another highlight of Nydri is the islands surrounding the bay, which can be reached by a rented yacht or a pleasure boat. Many of them are private closed territories, for example, the famous Scorpios island, which once belonged to Aristotle Onassis, and now is the property of one of the Russian oligarchs. You should visit Meganisi island, which is connected to the port of Nydri by ferry. There you can visit unique sea caves decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, have a good time on secluded picturesque beaches and get acquainted with the original cultural traditions of local residents.
