Ammolofoi beach

About 1 km west of Peramos lies the captivating Ammolofoi Beach, stretching over 3 km of pristine coastline. Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant beach life, Ammolofoi is acclaimed as one of the finest in Kavala. The beach is thoughtfully segmented into three distinct sections, catering to a variety of preferences - from bustling, well-appointed spots to tranquil, untouched enclaves.

Beach description

The azure waters of the bay are characterized by crystal purity. The name of the beach, Ammolofoi, is translated as "dunes." This place-name, of course, did not arise without reason. The beach consists of soft and quite fine sand, so during the winds, the sand drifts form dunes. The bottom is almost without shells, making it safe to relax here with children. Entry into the water is comfortable - you will not be hurt, even if you are without special footwear.

The depth and nature of the bottom on different parts of the beach vary:

  • In the left part, the water is long and shallow (the first 50 m depth is not above the chest);
  • The center of the sea near the beach is a bit deeper and a bit larger (but it is where the entire infrastructure is concentrated);
  • On the right side, there is a more wild area, also with a sufficiently significant depth.

Keep in mind the fact that it's not just a crowded beach, but very and very crowded. But in spite of this, it is very clean here. Ammolofoi beach has been awarded two Blue Flags.

This beach is very popular among young people. On weekends, parties last until late, but even on weekdays in the middle of the day, the music is not switched off here. That's why those who love silence will have to either go to a wild site or search for a completely different beach.

You can get to Ammolofoi by bus to Nea Peramos, and from there you can walk to the rest place on foot or catch a taxi. During the summer season, a shuttle bus will take you directly to the beach.

When is the best time to go?

The North Aegean coast, with its crystal-clear waters and scenic beaches, is a prime destination for a beach vacation. To make the most of your trip, timing is essential. Here's when you should consider visiting:

  • Late Spring (May to early June): This period is ideal for those who prefer a quieter vacation with fewer tourists. The weather is pleasantly warm, and the sea temperature begins to rise, making it comfortable for swimming.
  • Summer (Late June to August): Peak season brings the best weather conditions for a classic beach holiday. Expect hot, sunny days and warm nights, perfect for enjoying the vibrant nightlife. However, be prepared for crowded beaches and higher prices.
  • Early Autumn (September to October): The weather remains warm, but the crowds dissipate. The sea is still warm from the summer heat, offering a more peaceful and cost-effective vacation experience.

In conclusion, the best time to visit the North Aegean coast for a beach vacation depends on your preferences. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, late spring and early autumn are ideal, while summer offers the quintessential beach holiday atmosphere.
