Platanitis beach

Platanitis Beach is one of the semi-wild beaches of northern Greece. It is in the middle of the road from Alexandroupolis to Fanarion. Despite the rather close location to the large city of Alexandroupolis (35 km), Platanitis is not filled with a crowd of people. It is a quiet place where you can relax and feel refreshment of mind and body.

Beach description

Platanitis Beach is pebbled with sand, and the closer to water, the more pebbles – multi-colored, light, dark and red. The bottom of the shore is also pebbles, but the stones are small, and it is pleasant to walk along them, so special shoes will not be needed. The entrance to the water is smooth, convenient for young children. The beach itself is quite wide, on both sides it is framed by red rock rocks, which together with blue water and gray pebbles form a unique landscape.

Platanitis is quite easy to reach, but a significant minus may be a lack of infrastructure. Umbrellas and chaise lounges should be taken with you. Food and housing are a bit better: close to the beach there is a tavern, and in the village of the same name, to which adjoins Platanitis, you can easily settle in several hostels.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
