Synaksi beach

Synaksi is a tiny beach on the shore of the Thracian Sea. It is covered with large gray-red pebbles, which, in combination with stones sticking out of the water and shores overgrown with green shrubs, creates an atmosphere of abandonment, a secret and uncharted coast that no man has set foot on. One of the most famous adventurers - Odysseus - according to legend, really landed on this shore, heading to Maronia.

Beach description

Sinaksi is very small and wild but, at the same time, its views are enchanting. On the left, it is supported by a rocky formation the light red stones of which go under water. The rocky bottom can be not very convenient for walking, so the water entry is recommended with the special shoes on. There is no infrastructure on the beach, so you will have to take your own food and drinks which you can buy in Maronia which is situated 10 km away from this place.

In the near vicinity of the beach, archeological excavations are in progress: there, you can find the ruins of the early Christian (Justinian) church, ruins of the monastery complex of the 9th century, the arched sepulcher and a chapel with mosaics-laid floors. One kilometer northwards, the ancient Greek amphitheatre is situated. In the first turn, Sinaxi is recommended to people who value history, silence, and snorkeling.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
