Laganas beach
Laganas - a huge and most popular among a wide range of vacationers beach and the resort of the same name, one of the best in Zakynthos. At the same time, it is also known for its unique wildlife. There are clusters of Caretta Caretta sea turtles and you can see the Mediterranean monk seal. Beach description
The Laganas beach is located in the southern part of the island, 9 km away from the capital. The 9 km long beach is one of the longest in the Mediterranean. It's always crowded despite that fact, no matter the season.
- The shore is covered in grainy soft sand.
- The central part of the beach has a smooth descent, clean sand and warm waters which makes it perfect for family vacations (but not with very young children).
- As you venture outside the central part the shore becomes stony rather than sandy and sea urchins can be seen a lot more frequently.
- You can find a solitary place away from the noisy crowds in the more distant parts of the beach.
- The beach is closed during the night because turtles awaken in that time.
The main feature of the beach's outskirts is the small forest island of Cameo located not too far from the neighboring Agios Sostis beach. It's accessible via a small footbridge. But it is a nature reserve, so you'll have to pay to enter. This part of the beach is popular among newlywed couples.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

The resort located in the natural bay is characterized by the very well developed infrastructure. Deck chairs and umbrellas are available for rent on the beach, and diving is offered as well. Although, water sports entertainment is prohibited on the beach for the sake of saving the unique ecosystem and rare species living in it.
Near the beach, there are many taverns and cafes turning into places of hot parties closer to the evening. The village itself has many stores for any taste. Beside the capital of the island, Laganas is one of the best places in Zakinfa for shopping fans. It also has numerous popular night clubs and youth pubs, so this resort is especially popular in young people.
There are many annoying souvenir sellers on the beach. Right from the beach, tours are organized taht allow watching sea turtles.

From Zakynthos bus station, you can get to the resort by regular bus, which runs only 3 times a day. Therefore, it is better to rent a car or take a taxi.
The main attractions of Laganas:

- the ruins of the old Venetian villa "Sarakina" (next to the beach);
- in the vicinity of the resort there are old villages with original mansions and villas, as well as beautiful small churches
