Beach description
Makris Gialos is a pebbly narrow beach along the eastern coast of Zakynthos. Its main feature is its picturesque location which will be a beautiful beackground for your photographs. You can walk over to some of the mountain caves at the southern side of the beach and rest there. Grottos in the water are ideal for snorkeling. The descent is smooth, and the water itself is so clean that you can easily see each pebble covering the sea bottom.
There's no well-developed infrastructure: only a limited number of deck chairs and umbrellas are available in July and August. There are several restaurants that serve traditional Greek cuisine where you can dine. Makris Gialos is easy to reach: you need to take a turn off the main road and voila, you're here.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
