Marathia beach
In the south of the island, in the western part of Laganas Bay, there is Marathias beach, which is loved by fans of a quiet and relaxing holiday surrounded by nature. It got its name from the settlement of the same name. Blue-green waters are combined with light pebbles, and the blue sky and warm sun provide relaxation and rest.

The Marathia Beach, surrounded by mountains, is wide and pebbly. This picturesque landscape attracts many tourists. Marathia is located quite far away from the city and getting here can be difficult (you'll have to slowly make your way down from the hill via curvy paths), so it's never too crowded. Youth and lonely travellers are the most frequent guests around here. Families with children will find this path down the hill an obstacle, but otherwise it's quite comfortable: pebbles that cover the sea bottom are big and pleasant to the touch, and the descent is smooth.
There's no infrastructure for tourists on Marathia: you'll need to take care of deck chairs and umbrellas beforehand. No bars or cafes are located here. On one hand you won't be able to enjoy a nice cocktail, on the other - calm and quiet atmosphere are ensured. Marathia's outskirts are better developed: there are several taverns, and the hotels vary from cheap to luxurious.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
