Cape Hatteras Beach

Beach is located in the Eastern part of North Carolina on one of the Islands of Outer Banks. In Cape Hatteras Beach area, two powerful ocean currents collide – the North Atlantic and the Gulf Stream, which create funnels and swirls, as well as provoke strong storms that are extremely dangerous for boat traffic. Not without reason these places are called "cemetery of the Atlantic", which buried hundreds of ships. Contour of island is constantly changing, new banks appear and the existing ones bear the eloquent names "Beware", "Fear" and "Boiling pan". Nevertheless, local places are very popular with tourists who come to go diving, ride giant waves, enjoy the splendor of wildlife and perhaps find buried treasure pirates.

Beach description

Cape Hatteras beach is a wide multi-kilometer beach line, covered with golden sand and washed by the powerful waters of the Atlantic ocean. Places are completely wild and are not designed for a classic beach rest. Swimming, despite the constant supervision of beach inspectors, can be extremely dangerous because of the powerful currents, strong winds, as well as sharks, poisonous jellyfishes and other marine fauna that can harm humans. Therefore, Cape Hatteras Beach is visited mainly by fishing enthusiasts, as well as professional surfers and divers. On certain areas of the beach are allowed to run on SUVs, ATVs and sand yachts and even held competitions in these sports. Paragliding and kiteboarding are also very popular.

On the beach you can stay with tents and light fires in the evening and at night. This is closely monitored by the shore services, which need to take a special permit. Since the beach is part of the National natural park and is protected by the state, access to some of areas may be limited during the breeding season of sea turtles and rare species of birds living in these places. All necessary information is on the reserve's website, so before you go to Cape Hatteras Beach, you should carefully read information. Do not forget about repellents, there are many swamps and small lakes as along the beach, which means that there is a high probability that mosquitoes will pestering.

When is the best time to go?

To lay off on the beaches of the mainland, it is best to come in the summer, when a sufficiently warm temperature is settled for swimming. Places like Florida or the Hawaiian Islands are comfortable all year round.

Useful information

Main attraction of the island, of course is a national park and the most famous in the United States stone lighthouse height of sixty meters. At first it was on the very edge of the island, but due to the erosion of the sandy shore there was a threat of collapse and in 1999 giant structure was moved to several hundred meters (the first such case in history). There is an observation deck with fantastic views of the surrounding area at the top. At low tide, you can even see the rusty skeletons of ships wrecked near the island.

No less interesting is Museum of sea, located near the lighthouse (entrance to the museum is carried out on a entire ticket). In Museum of sea you can get acquainted with the history of the local places and see with your own eyes the treasures of pirate's hoard and amazing artifacts found in the holds of sunken vessels.
