Cape May Beach

Cape May Beach is a beautiful sandy beach of one of the oldest resorts in the USA, which got its name in honor of the Dutch captain, the first one who explored this region. Since the 18th century, this resort has been popular among vacationers as the best place for a beach holiday. Therefore, it is not surprising that Cape May Beach has repeatedly hit the top ten beaches in America and is also one of the five most scenic coasts of New Jersey.

Beach description

Cape May Beach is located in the very south of New Jersey at the place where the waters of the Atlantic and Delaware Bay meet. This is a picturesque coast, holidays on which are especially popular among families with children and retired people. The beachfront stretches for almost 4 km parallel to the city promenade of Beach Avenue. The coast is completely covered with clean and very fine (like powder) white sand.

Vacationers should consider several important nuances when resting here:

  • swimming on Cape May Beach is allowed only in areas that do not go beyond the restrictive buoys;
  • skimboarding is possible only under the supervision of lifeguards;
  • fishing is allowed only in the eastern part of the beach after 5 p.m.;
  • Entrance passes are required for a vacation on Cape May Beach

Excellent wind-wave conditions allow you to surf here. But it is worth considering the above indicated restrictions regarding swimming. Please note that it is allowed to bring food and drinks to the beach but not alcohol, otherwise fines are possible. During the summer, access to dogs on the coast is prohibited.

When is the best time to go?

To lay off on the beaches of the mainland, it is best to come in the summer, when a sufficiently warm temperature is settled for swimming. Places like Florida or the Hawaiian Islands are comfortable all year round.

Infrastructure

The entire coast is equipped with toilets and showers every 800 metres. It is better to bring beach umbrellas and sun loungers with you. It is possible to rent them here but in a limited number, and usually there is simply not enough for all vacationers. A free parking lot is located in a small side street just a few blocks from the coast. In season, the beach is controlled by lifeguards from morning to 6 p.m.

  • Near the coast you can find many cafes, beach restaurants and food stalls.
  • Restaurants in Fisherman's Harbor also offer a wonderful view of the bay.
  • On the waterfront there are various attractions and shopping pavilions.

Most hotels are located near the promenade, so here you can easily find the most comfortable accommodation option next to the beach. For example, you can stay at ICONA Cape May (directly opposite the beach), Grand Hotel (the luxury hotel near the beach) or at Congress Hall (a little further from the coast but in the very historical heart of the resort).
