Lanikai beach
Lanikai Beach – one of the most beautiful and especially popular for relaxing beaches in Hawaii. It is located on the coast of the same name resort area of Kailua on the island of Oahu, and its name translates as "heavenly ocean." Almost a kilometer coastal strip of soft light sand of a powder form and a significant area of shallow water attract families with children to Lanikai. There are often a lot of vacationers on the shore, but still most of them are local residents of a residential area adjacent to the beach. It is the latter fact that makes access to this public beach for others who wish to relax here somewhat difficult. You can get to it only by walking along the coast with other beaches in the neighborhood.
- The ocean waters warm up here perfectly (up to +26), which allows you to spend a lot of time swimming, and not just relaxing on the shore.
- Lanikai is characterized by windward waters, therefore, unlike most Hawaiian beaches, it is characterized by their special calm. In combination with shallow water, this allows you to relax here safely even with young children.
- On weekdays you can still find free places, but on weekends and during peak seasons on the coast it is always very crowded. It’s better to arrive early in the morning, when it’s not very hot and there are not too many people here.
Diving here is not very popular due to not very good visibility and the lack of reefs that attract many fish. The main entertainment is coastal kayaking. Also, in addition to the traditional beach holiday, Lanikai also attracts as a great place for photo shoots. He is very popular among photographers. Therefore, here you can often meet famous models.
The local landscapes for photographing are especially attractive because of the presence of two small islands called Mokuluas in the ocean in the background. It is not surprising that the beach is considered the most beautiful on Oahu and often its views appear on guides on this island.
When is the best time to go?

Infrastructure
The main disadvantage of this picturesque coast is the lack of beach infrastructure, even at a minimum level. On the shore there are no toilets, showers and even parking, and the beach itself is not controlled by lifeguards. Ample parking spaces can be found near the neighboring Kailua beach, but even at the entrance to the shore of Lanikai, legal parking at the weekend will be crowded.
- It is better to take beach umbrellas with you – they are not available for rent, and the sun is very hot.
- It’s also better to take food and water with you, since there are no cafes or kiosks on the coast of Lanikai. Shopping can be done in Kailua, the center of which is only a 5-10 minute walk from the beach. There you can find many shops, cafes and restaurants.
