Polihua beach

The beach is located in the northwest of the Hawaiian island Lanai and is the longest beach there (2,5 km). The giant coastline is covered in white sand that creates big wave-shaped dunes on the edges. The beach isn't protected from the ocean winds at all, as there are no reefs around. So, regardless of the season, high waves and sand storms can be encountered here. Swimming and doing water sports can be very dangerous due to the unpredictable currents and the uneven sea bottom terrain.

Beach description

The beach is fully wild and almost always deserted. The way here is quite complicated: a bumpy unpaved road leads here from the Garden of Gods (a unique landscape nature reserve with bizarre stone sculptures), so an all-wheel drive SUV would be the only suitable vehicle in order to get here. It's best if you leave your car on the parking lot, as, even though the dunes attract a lot of drivers, you may lose control of your vehicle or just get stuck in the quicksand.

Polihua is a perfect place for picnics, photo shoots, sunbathing and slow walks on the coast. It's especially beloved by those who like beautiful landscapes and calm relaxation among nature.

When is the best time to go?

To lay off on the beaches of the mainland, it is best to come in the summer, when a sufficiently warm temperature is settled for swimming. Places like Florida or the Hawaiian Islands are comfortable all year round.
