Lydgate beach

Lydgate Beach Park is a unique place, it is a combination of the significant site of Hawaiian natural beauty and human hard work and kindness. The most part of Lydgate history is connected with missionary and volunteer activities, and people from all over the world enjoy the results of this. It got its name after John Mortimer Lydgate: he was a missionary of congregational church and bassed his commune here in 1896. Many generation of locals came here with their parents and now they bring their children. It is a place of safety and comfort on the Pacific Ocean: that is how describe it not a guide book but hundreds of families.

Beach description

The sand beach with clean blue water is a common thing for Hawaii: most of the resorts look like a picture from a promotional brochure. But what they hide are strong waves or underwater currents, that could sweep swimmers far from the shore, or the lack of lifeguards who would take care of your safety. Lydgate, thanks largely to human hardwork, has none of those disadvantages. The lifeguards' stations are on opposite ends of the beach, and what is more important there are stone U-shaped barriers, that create pools with still water near the shore. They were built in 1964, and they still stand! There are two of them: the outer one is for adults and divers and inner one is for children.

When you swim along the boundaries you could see small oceanic fish gleaming in cracks. In the contrast with other beaches, there is no strong wind on Lydgate Beach. Due to its safety and peacefulness, this place is perfect for families with children, elder people and those who feel insecure in the water, but who dream to travel to Hawaii. If you come to the island looking for new sensations and extreme, Lydgate will disappoint you: it is not made for surfing or other water sports and big waves, which many of us associate this state with.

When is the best time to go?

To lay off on the beaches of the mainland, it is best to come in the summer, when a sufficiently warm temperature is settled for swimming. Places like Florida or the Hawaiian Islands are comfortable all year round.

Infrastructure

Unfortunately, there is no five-star hotels near the beach: you should choose a more humble place or rent a car (it can be also used to get to the beach, located close to the road with a parking area). If you have no wish to waste your money on transport, you can check into apartments: there are many options for different tastes and budgets. The rental service of a sun lounger with an umbrella is unavailable. There are specials areas for picnics in the adjacent park, but no restaurants or cafes. There is Kamalani park and playground, built by volunteers, across from the beach: it is about 1500 sq m and it has playground equipment along with grass field for kite launching or playing frisbee, it is where a 2.5 km bike path takes its beginning. There are also footpaths through the park in shadows of trees.
