Afytos beach
Afytos Beach is a picturesque resort and beach of the same name on the northeastern edge of the Kassandra Peninsula. It is not by chance that this area is called the true pearl of Halkidiki, and legends ascribe to it a significant role as the site of the decisive battle of the ancient Greek gods with the titans. In the halo of such performances Afitos is an ideal place for relaxation of romantics, lovers of beautiful nature and spectacular sunsets and sunrises over the sea.

Located 5 km from the equally popular beach Kallithea Afitos is a narrow long sandy strip, surrounded by high hills, covered with emerald greenery. There are several options for accessing the coast. But with any of them, a steep descent should be overcomed, since the resort is located on a significant hill, which the Greeks call the "stone balcony of nature", and the beach itself is at its foot.
Since the beach is quite long, the conditions on it may vary:
- on a part of the coastline, the entry into the sea is sandy and sloping, with a gradual increase in depth;
- in other areas the bottom is rocky, the stones are flat and slippery, sea urchins are found, and the depth begins suddenly, already at a slight distance from the coast
The coast is covered with white sand, the sea waters impress with fantastic turquoise hues and incredible transparency. There are usually no high waves here due to the protection by hills and coastal cliffs.
This is a great place for those, who craves for a quiet and secluded rest by the sea. The main thing is not to forget about safety, swim in special slippers and be careful, when diving. Families with young children should choose a different beach in Kassandra (since there are plenty of them).
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
